About Cho-kabukiAbout Cho-kabuki

The popular kabuki actor, Nakamura Shidō, and the worlds’ biggest virtual diva, Hatsune Miku, will appear at the Minamiza Theatre in Kyoto this August!

‘Cho Kabuki’ is an unprecedented and spectacular show which combines the Japanese traditional theatre form, Kabuki, with advanced ICT technology.
Using the advanced technology of Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Co. (“NTT”), one of the world's largest ICT companies, ‘Cho Kabuki’ sees the creation of a special kabuki play co-starring the popular kabuki actor, Nakamura Shidō, and the worlds’ biggest virtual diva, Hatsune Miku, both of whom are currently enjoying international success!

In the regular ‘Cho Kabuki’ program this August, you can enjoy the new kabuki dance ‘OKUNI SANZA IMAYŌ KABUKI ODORI’ that will be staged for the first time at the Minamiza Theatre, as well as ‘HANAKURABE SENBON ZAKURA’ that was recently performed at the Niconico Chokaigi 2019 at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba prefecture this April. You’re sure to be thrilled when Nakamura Shidō performs one of the great spectacles of kabuki, an aerial stunt in which he will fly off from the stage!

Furthermore, in the limited version of ‘Cho Kabuki’ (the shorter program), you’ll see a single-act show lasting approximately one-hour, performed by Sawamura Kuniya and others. This will be a great chance to experience this special kabuki performance in Kyoto without worrying about the budget.

Don’t miss this brand-new kabuki, a fusion of the real and the virtual worlds, in ‘Cho Kabuki’ in Kyoto!

About Minamiza TheatreAbout Minamiza Theatre

Minamiza

The historic kabuki theatre with over 400 years of history!

Minamiza is one of the earliest of the seven officially licensed Kabuki theaters built in the early Edo period (1615 - 1623) in the Shijo Kawara area in Kyoto, even before Tokyo and Osaka, and continues to present Kabuki across over 400 years of history. After its large-scale reconstruction to make it earthquake proof, the Minamiza Theatre reopened in November, 2018. It will stage a wide range of productions throughout the year, from 'traditional Japanese performing arts' to 'the newest live entertainments'.
